Acne can be quite inflammatory, and healed acne lesions can leave a red spot. The redness can look unsightly amongst all the other active lesions, or can leave a pattern even if the acne is fully treated. The good news is that these red spots will fade, but can take up to twelve months. No treatment is required.
Actual scarring can be permanent, but a decision to treat further should not be made until one year after successful treatment of the acne. Remodeling of the scars can occur after treatment with an oral retinoid.
Various treatment are available, including subscision, punch removal of pits, resurfacing and fractionated light-based treatments. Please discuss your specific needs with your dermatologist, as treatments are invidually tailored.
